From some other posts here, you will see how this animation will fit together as part of my logo sequence. As Ziggy exits the spacecraft, the tesla coil force field converts into this steel ring and crossbeam, from which some lettering will be projected as a hologram.
I made extensive use of Animation Nodes in Blender 2.93 to do this, including individually animating the alpha channel of over a hundred instanced objects. Huge kudos to Jaques Lucke, Omar Emara and 3DSingh for the amazing add-on, as well as to Chris P for his super tutorial which explains how to use Material Instances.
